Ranjit Dhuru
Ranjit Dhuru is the key founder of Chateau d'Ori. His passion and strategic vision is responsible for creating the lush vineyards and the state of the art winery from a virgin wasteland at the bottom of Nera-Ori mountains at Dindori, Nasik. During his many business trips to the USA and Europe Mr. Dhuru was introduced to some of the fine wines of Bordeaux. Talks on wine and golf generally followed many business dinners. His interest in wine further grew after visits to Napa and Sonoma valleys in the USA and Bordeaux and other wine producing regions of France. Before long he understood why the best and the most famous wines in the world originated from the Bordeaux region. One who firmly believed in 'not reinventing the wheel', he was confident that if the style and system used in Bordeaux was replicated in India, equally good wines could be produced in the country. In 1999 with a few like minded friends he systematically set about doing just that. Nashik was the obvious choice, and after a through search for the right 'terrior', Dindori the selected destination. Determined to produce 'Estate Bottled' quality wines, he first developed the vineyards with selected grafts from Bordeaux, before constructing the winery. The Winery itself is a 'trend setter' in these parts of the world. Built around the logical sequence of vinification, it is circular in shape and is fitted out with the latest equipment in the business. The Winery crushed its first vintage in 2007. Today Chateau d'Ori wines are as good as any available in the world, again... at affordable prices.
A post graduate in Law with a background in Commerce, Ranjit Dhuru was drawn to the computer revolution sweeping the country in the 1980s. In 1986 he floated a company called Aftek Ltd. After a modest beginning, Aftek, with its catch line - for AFfordable TEKnology, grew into a Rs. 400 crore business with subsidiaries in Germany, USA and UK.
